Asset Management Chartered Professional assessments are typically completed within 6 weeks, depending on the availability of referees and applicants for interviews.
The application form will ask you to identify your level of technical competency on a scale: Entry-Level, Learning, or Competent or Higher. Here's what those terms mean:
- "Entry-Level" means you have limited practical experience in this subject area. You may have theoretical knowledge but would require significant guidance and supervision to perform tasks related to this competency.
- "Learning" means that you are actively engaged in acquiring new knowledge and skills related to this subject area. You use some language and terminology consistent with ISO 550XX. You can perform simple tasks related to the subject area under supervision.
- "Competent or Higher" means that you demonstrate a solid understanding of the subject. You can perform tasks related to the subject independently and with confidence. You may also be proficient beyond the competency requirements, demonstrating problem-solving skills, innovation and leadership.
Successful applications are based on the following principles:
- Aotearoa New Zealand is a unique context. Therefore, applicants should demonstrate some effort to achieve the competencies in the Pou Herenga section.
- The Āpōpō Competency Framework describes all aspects of asset management. However, this application requires a specific set of competencies. The exact set required is described above, and in the application form.
- Many asset managers cannot supply artefacts as evidence because of client confidentiality or other reasons. Therefore, applicants may either:
- Write a narrative supporting their assertion of competency, or
- Upload supporting documentation as evidence, along with a description of how the documentation evidences their competency.
- A comprehensive evaluation incorporates both written and verbal components. Therefore, this written application is supported by a face-to-face interview (usually a video call) where applicants can further articulate their experiences and competencies.
In the application form, each subject allows you to support your assertion of competency with a narrative or supporting evidence. You only need to provide a narrative or evidence if you score “Competent or Higher”.
Your narrative is your key opportunity to explain your skills to the assessors. The assessors are looking for you to:
- Describe Relevant Experience: Provide a description of your relevant experience, projects, or roles that demonstrate your proficiency in the specific subject.
- Provide Specific Examples: Offer concrete examples that showcase your application of the competency in real-world situations. Describe the tasks you performed, the challenges you encountered, and the outcomes achieved.
- Highlight Achievements: Highlight any accomplishments or successes related to the competency area. This could include achieving specific targets, improving processes, implementing innovative solutions, or receiving recognition for your contributions.
- Discuss Skills and Knowledge: Explain how your skills, knowledge, and expertise align with the competency requirements. Include any relevant training, qualifications, or professional development activities you have undertaken to enhance your competency.
- Reflect on Learning and Growth: Reflect on your learning journey and professional growth within the competency area. Discuss any lessons learned, areas of improvement identified, and plans for future development to continue enhancing your competency.
- Provide Supporting Artefacts: Where possible, include supporting documentation such as reports, presentations, or testimonials that validate your claims and provide additional evidence of your competency. Upload these documents with your application - but make sure to also include direction to the assessors. For example, note which pages you authored, or where they will find the evidence of your competency in the document.
While there is no word limit for your narrative response, please make it easy for the assessor by being both informative and concise.
