Āpōpō accreditation can include both New Zealand accreditation and international certification. You can select NZ-only, or NZ+international - depending on your length of time practicing asset management and your specific set of competencies.
To start on your pathway towards accreditation, you first need to think about this question: are you interested in New Zealand local accreditation alone, or New Zealand accreditation plus international certification? Here is a breakdown of what's involved:
New Zealand
Accreditation
Your accreditation is recognised throughout New Zealand and is endorsed by Āpōpō.
There are two tiers to Āpōpō accreditation:
- Asset Management Associate (AMA)
- Asset Management Chartered Professional (AMCP)
AMA is intended for early career asset managers, and AMCP is relevant for more experienced asset managers.
The Āpōpō Competency Framework lists all the competencies.
During your application you will be asked to self-assess your competency against the framework.
The local accreditation scheme doesn't require you to evidence specific competencies, but the international certification does.
The assessment process for local accreditation is slightly less involved, and this is reflected in the price:
- Asset Management Associate (AMA) - $200 to apply, and $200 per year to maintain
- Asset Management Chartered Professional (AMCP) - $800 to apply, and $300 per year to maintain
Prices are exclusive of GST.
NZ plus International Certification
Your accreditation is not only recognised within New Zealand, but also internationally.
This makes it easier to move countries with recognition of your competency as an asset manager.
The global certification scheme has five tiers:
- Certified Technical Specialist in Asset Management (CTAM)
- Certified Practitioner in Asset Management (CPAM)
- Certified Senior Principal in Asset Management (CSAM)
- Certified Executive in Asset Management (CEAM)
- Certified Fellow in Asset Management (CFAM)
Each of the tiers has different competency requirements.
The Āpōpō Competency Framework lists all the competencies.
During your application you will be asked to self-assess your competency against the framework.
Each tier in the global certification scheme has specific competency requirements.
The assessment process for international certification is slightly more involved, which is reflected in the price:
- $950 to apply
- $300 per year to maintain.
Prices are exclusive of GST.
Not sure? Try the Self Assessment
The self-assessment gives you the opportunity to reflect on your competence across the Āpōpō Competency Framework in advance of an application.
Self-assessments are not assessed - they are just for you.
Anyone can complete the self-assessment. However, only Āpōpō members can apply to become Asset Management Associate (AMA) and Asset Management Chartered Professional (AMCP).
There is no cost to self-assessments.
It might take you 15-45 minutes to complete.
